A New Era for Phone Technology

The most recent years have been rather interesting when it comes to phone(s) and technology itself. When you take into account the humble origin of the telephone, it is difficult to accept just how far they have come. The first cellular telephone was introduced in New York City, and it literally required a power cell the size of a cinder block. While it was amazing at the time to have a phone that could make calls on the go, but today it would be considered unacceptable to have a phone that can only make basic calls.

The things that are demanded from phone(s) today are almost unbelievable, but those demands exist for a reason. At the beginning of the information age the personal computer was all the rage. The ability to communicate with the entire world from your living room would quickly become a staple of society, but eventually people became tired of being tethered to their walls when they wished to use the internet or talk to friends and family. Internet became standard on the cellular phone, as you can imagine, but the earlier internet phones were not desired. They access was expensive and the browsers were limited at best. that being the case, smartphones were not far behind.

New Technologies
Something that many mobile phone providers recognize at the moment is that calling plans and limited minutes may very well be a thing of the past. One app, Google Voice has made it possible to call across the country via the computer without any limitations. When it became a smartphone app, all bets were off. There are more than a few mobile phone users that apply the Google Voice application in the interest of saving money. With that being the case, mobile phone plan costs are being cut in half by those who simply pay for a data plan. How phone companies respond to this will be anyone’s guess, but there has been some progress in the area of phone applications.

Apps
There is literally an app available for every action you could want to take. From finding the best restaurant to reserving show tickets, there’s an app for that. There are even several video games that can now be played on phones whether you choose the Windows Phone, iOS, or Android.

The Conclusion
To put it quite simply, the mobile phone(s) industry is heading in an entirely new direction. Mobile phones are on par with home computers and as time goes by, more and more people are simply using their mobile phones AS computers. Though computers will always be necessary, mobile phones with internet capability will quickly become a permanent part of everyday life.
